Become a knight this February half term

Come and join Knight School at the Tower this half term!

The year is 1471, the Wars of the Roses rage on and the Tower garrison is looking for new recruits. Put yourself through your paces as you find out what it takes to become a Knight of the Tower.

Learn the art of the sword, charge at a quintain, handle armour, dress up, design your own flag and much more.

With the range of impressive skills you have mastered, will Queen Elizabeth Woodville think it’s enough to grant you knighthood?

Take part in Knightly activities

At Knight School, you will get the chance to develop and prove a range of knightly skills. Follow the trail and stamp each of your knightly achievements.

Prepare your armour

Learn how to properly handle your armour and use elbow grease to polish it in preparation for battle.

Dress the knight

Which pieces of armour go where? Build a knight's outfit from scratch and discover how to dress like a true Knight of the Tower.

Balance on horseback

Test your strength and balance as you attempt to mount your trusty steed.

Guess the smell

Identify six different scents that are linked to different tasks expected of a young knight in training.

Build your own catapult

A true knight can make a catapult using only lollipop sticks and recycled milk top bottles. Have a go at building your own.

Design a flag

Create your family crest and proudly fly your very own flag full mast.

Write a knight’s pledge on parchment

Practice your quill writing skills and write your very own oath of allegiance.

The quiet corner

Books are for knights, too. Take some time out and read all about the life of a knight in our quiet corner.
