Tales from the Tower

Be transported back in time with true tales and marvellous myths from the Tower of London’s colourful history! How do the stories of the Tower help us build a picture of life in England over the centuries? And how do we know what really happened here?

Led by a costumed presenter, this session explores the Tower’s different roles throughout history and encourages children to decide whether some of its stories are fact or fiction.

Learning objectives

Children will:

  • Understand the Tower’s role as a place of historic and national importance.
  • Be immersed in the stories of the Tower, in the locations where they happened.
  • Understand how we know about events in the past and learn to question sources of evidence.

  • A post 1066 study of relevant local history.
  • Understanding of how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources.
