Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Kew Palace is located within the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Visitors can access Kew Gardens via four entrance gates:

  • Victoria Gate (TW9 3JR)
  • Elizabeth Gate (TW9 3AB)
  • Brentford Gate (TW9 3AF)
  • Lion Gate (TW9 2DF)

The Elizabeth Gate is closest to Kew Palace.

Public transport

London Underground and trains

Kew Gardens Station (15-20 minute walk) – In zone 3 and served by the District Line and London Overground.

There is no level access from the westbound platform.

Kew Bridge Station (15-20 minute walk) – South West Trains run services from Waterloo to Kew Bridge Station, via Vauxhall and Clapham Junction.

There is no level access at Kew Bridge.

Bus

Nearby stops include Mortlake Road and Kew Green.

Routes 65, 237, 267 and 391 stop at the entrance gates or nearby train stations.

Parking

Restrictions may apply on the residential streets around Kew. Local car parks include:

Brentford Gate

Reached by Ferry Lane. £7.00 for a full day.

Kew Road (A307)

Free parking available after 10.00 every morning.

Disabled parking

Brentford Gate car park has several dedicated parking bays for disabled visitors. There are three disabled parking bays near Elizabeth Gate on Kew Green. Parking is free for Blue Badge Holders.

Coach drop off and collection

Groups can be dropped off and picked up at the Elizabeth Gate on Kew Green.

Coach parking is free of charge on Kew Road after 10:00.

Bicycle

Bicycle racks can be found:

  • Inside the Victoria Gate
  • Outside the Elizabeth Gate
  • Brentford Gate car park

Lockers are available at the Victoria Gate. Bicycles are not permitted in Kew Gardens.

Riverboats run in the summer from the following destinations:

  • Westminster
  • Richmond-upon-Thames
  • Kingston-upon-Thames

The Great Pagoda

The Great Pagoda is situated in the southern end of Kew Gardens, near the Temperate House. Please be aware of the average walking times from the Gardens entrances:

  • Elizabeth Gate – 30 minutes
  • Victoria Gate – 15 minutes
  • Lion Gate – 5 minutes 
  • Brentford Gate (car park) – 40 minutes

Queen Charlotte's Cottage

Queen Charlotte's Cottage is situated in the southern end of Kew Gardens, next to the bluebell woods. Please be aware of the average walking times from the Gardens entrances:

  • Elizabeth Gate – 40 minutes
  • Victoria Gate – 25 minutes
  • Lion Gate – 15 minutes 
  • Brentford Gate (car park) – 50 minutes
