Historic Royal Palaces' Joint Chief Curator Lucy Worsley is joined by Royal Dress Collection Curator Eleri Lynn for a trip inside the Royal Wardrobe.
Comprising of over 10,000 historic objects – from King Henry VIII’s hat to the famous ‘Travolta’ dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales - the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection is housed at Hampton Court Palace and cared for by a team of 20 highly skilled experts, led by curator Eleri Lynn, a modern day ‘Keeper of the Royal Wardrobe.’
In this intimate 1 hour talk online, Lucy and Eleri will discuss some of their favourite items in the collection – from a jerkin worn by the ill-fated Charles I, right through to the beautifully tailored wardrobe of the Duke of Windsor. Lucy will make sure Eleri – an expert in historic underwear – covers all the important questions, from navigating loo breaks in Georgian mantuas, to Queen Victoria’s embroidered drawers!
The conversation will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
This event is free to join, but we ask you to consider making a donation of £10 or whatever you can afford.
The six palaces under the care of Historic Royal Palaces are currently closed as part of the national effort to defeat the coronavirus. As an independent charity that generates all our own funds, we – like many of you – are facing unprecedented challenges. Any support you can give will be put to our essential costs of caring for the palaces and the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection.
We look forward to you joining our online event.
